a prayer for a monday

Merciful Savior,

we are bone-weary, discouraged, even hopeless. We want to run away from responsibilities and needs that never end. Our own forgetfulness separates us from you: we forget to be grateful for your many blessings. We forget to serve in your strength, not our own. We forget to pray first; instead we exhaust our own wisdom. We forget to eat and rest and listen. We forget that you are always with us, that you care about us in our pain and weariness, that your grace is sufficient for the demands of this day. Forgive us Lord, and restore in us the peace and joy of your presence.

We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
